It has been a week since my friend revealed to me that she is ill and will not be writing for awhile. I have not wanted to write anything about the fact that she is ill; I was just too stunned. You see, TZ#2 also known as Stable Hand at MPJ before she became a co-blogger for them was the inspiration for this blog when it started December 17, 2007 and she is without a doubt the heart of it as well as a constant inspiration to me on a very personal level. I am the lazy co-blogger here at "The Stables" that likes to work in the shadows, does not work or play well with others, and is a really lousy writer too! She is one of my dearest friends that throughout all of the pettiness that can be found in the blogging world in general and in the anti-jihad movement in particular has remained a steady, unrelenting, and unstoppable force in my life. She never allowed me to just quit when I wanted to do so and I do know that when she comes back and sees that I have done nothing to keep up our blog she will have my guts for garters. She is feisty like that. Matter of fact her doctor is wanting her to only have one jihadi for a snack per day while she is insisting that she will continue to have one for breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with the snack! Someone needs to tell the poor doctor that he will not win that argument! Bwahahahahah. So, with all of this said I will try to keep our blog up and going. I will do this for her as well as the causes that we have tried so hard to fight for and that are so very important to TZ#2. MyPetJawa has a prayer thread for TZ#2 aka Stable Hand; if any of you guys get a chance just jot down your thoughts for her there. It does help for her to know that we all are praying for her.

First, I wish Scott Olson a speedy recovery and the incident surrounding his injury fully investigated. There are too many "theories" surrounding what happened. Thankfully he won't be a "martyr" for #OWS protesters, although the story will continue to get a lot of play. His bloody image made for a "nice" fundraising plea for IVAW.

Scott Olsen is the Marine Corps veteran critically injured at Occupy Oakland Tuesday night, during a confrontation between the protesters and the police. The latest news is good: his condition has been upgraded from critical to fair and he is apparently conscious and able to respond to doctors and family members. I sincerely wish him a full recovery, and I also hope that a proper investigation is conducted to determine whether police misconduct is responsible for his injuries.

But I ran across something this evening that may add a new dimension to this story. It has been widely reported that Olsen is a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War. But apparently his opposition to the U.S. military and the Marine Corps in which he served runs a little deeper.

Three letters sent Tuesday and obtained by Fox News show the committee's investigation into the cleric, who was killed in a CIA-led operation in Yemen on Sept. 30, has broadened since his death.

In the first letter, Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, wrote to Lt. Gen. Ronald Burgess, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, which is responsible for directing interrogations of detainees in military custody at Guantanamo, including the self-described architect of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

King asked the agency to question detainees involved in plotting 9/11 about the possible roles of Eyad al-Rababah of Jordan, Daoud Chehazeh of Syria and Awlaki in the terror attack.

"I understand that these detainees have not been interrogated in several years, and certainly not since Awlaki's role within Al Qaeda became widely acknowledged in 2009," King wrote.

Al-Rababah and Chehazeh were first profiled by the Fox News Specials Unit in "Secrets of 9/11," which aired in May. The investigation outlined the domestic support network that allowed the Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers to move around the U.S. with ease.

It also presented new and compelling evidence that Awlaki was an overlooked player in the Sept. 11 plot who slipped through the FBI's grasp after the attack.

Earthquake in Turkey

A 7.2 earthquake hit Turkey on Sunday at approximately 13:41 in Eastern Turkey 10 miles from Van, Turkey with an estimated 7 aftershocks according to the USGS and as many as 70 in other reports. Turkey is no stranger to devastating earthquakes; in 1999 an estimated 17,000-20,000 people lost their lives and in 1979 33,000 people were killed by an earthquake. An unknown amount of lives have been lost in this latest quake. Turkish officials say it could be five hundred to a thousand. From looking at the pictures and video footage from Reuters, Fox, and CNN it looks like a catastrophic loss of life and property. Israel's government has contacted Turkey to offer condolences and has offered to provide any assistance needed to the people of Turkey during this crisis. It is not clear as to if Turkish officials will take Israel up on their offer to help save Turkish lives amny of which are still trapped in the rubble. So far it does not look like they will accept help. What a tragedy for the people of Turkey that we now live in a world where Turkey would rather let their people die than to take a helping hand that is offered to them. This refusal speaks volumes about Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan. According to some reports prisoners have escaped from their cells following the quake. Let us hope that it is the military "prisoners" that Mr. Erdogan has had arrested because they supported Ataturk's secular Turkey rather than a Turkey ruled by Shariah Law.

Analysis: Schalit on Egypt TV: exploitative, abusive, cruel

Israeli officials described Gilad Schalit's first interview after his release as "exploitative." They could have added amateurish, propagandistic, opportunistic and downright cruel.

Tuesday's travesty - carried live on state-run TV - was conducted by Shahira Amin, a leading Egyptian journalist who in February quit the channel for its skewed coverage of the popular protests that unseated president Hosni Mubarak. That Amin now appears to be doing Cairo's bidding bodes ill for hopes the "new Egypt" would usher in the first free media environment in the post-colonial Arab world.

The notion that Schalit agreed to give Nile TV an interview of his own free will beggars belief. Forcing him to do so immediately after his release from Gaza - before seeing medical staff, much less an Israeli representative or his family - is in itself an apparent breach of journalistic ethics.

That issue aside, more than a few of Amin's questions ran the gamut from fatuous to sadistic.

Is it any wonder he appears stressed? A masked Hamas terrorist was standing behind him and was also filming the interview. Hell, maybe for all he knew, he may have thought this was another Hamas propaganda video:

Hamas militants were in the area as the interview was being set up. One of them stood behind Schalit's chair, wearing a black face mask, a green headband of the Qassam brigades — Hamas' military wing — and filming with a video camera in his hand[...]

An ashen-faced Schalit answered a range of questions on his captivity and what he thought of the 1,027 Palestinian prisoners released for his freedom.

He was then handed over to Israeli officials and only then given a medical examination, where doctors determined he showed signs of malnutrition and lack of exposure to sunlight.

The combined security force conducted the airstrike in Wardak’s Sayyidabad district, resulting in the death of a man they said was responsible for providing weapons and logistical support to insurgents for ambush and roadside-bomb attacks along the main thoroughfare, Highway 1.

The force called for the airstrike after ensuring no civilians were in the area, officials said, and following the strike, they assessed the area and determined no civilians were harmed.

A Somali man and woman arrested in Finland on suspicion of financing terrorism and terror recruitment are linked to the Somali insurgent group al-Shabab, police said Tuesday[...]

The 34-year-old man is also suspected of recruiting at least one person abroad to commit an act of terrorism "in the direction of Somalia," linked to al-Shabab, the agency said. He has lived in Finland since 2005, has a residency permit and has had several jobs.

The 28-year-old woman is a student who arrived in Finland in late 2008, police said.

Madrid, Spain (CNN) -- Civil Guards arrested five Algerian men early Tuesday in northern Spain on suspicion of providing logistical and financial support for Islamic terrorist activities, Spain's interior ministry said.

The suspects, aged 36 to 49, allegedly supported "terrorist groups that operate in the Algerian area of the Maghreb, specifically for al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb,"[AQIM flag above R..ed] a ministry statement said.

What Moore found was a literal message-in-a-bottle among a collection of ocean debris picked up on a one mile stretch of the base's coastline[...]

The bottle was sent from young Saki Arikawa -- a sixth grade student at the time -- in Kagoshima, Japan and traveled more than 4,000 miles and five years before it was discovered on the Westside of Kauai. When President Obama hosted his annual iftar dinner in August to commemorate Ramadan, the list of invitees published by the White House was curiously missing the names of several attendees — all of whom are top leaders of organizations known to be purveyors of jihadist ideology. But it was not like they had crashed the party. One of the unlisted, Mohamed Magid, head of the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Islamic Society of North America, was photographed by Reuters sitting at the front table only a few feet from the president as he spoke.

This was just the most recent episode in the federal government’s disastrous attempts at outreach to the Muslim community since the 9/11 attacks. With the release of President Obama’s new strategic plan to combat “violent extremism” by expanding outreach to these same terror-tied groups, the present administration seems intent on compounding the problems wrought by its predecessors.

Misguided outreach activities began long before 9/11, with the best example being the case of Abdurahman Alamoudi.

Alamoudi was the conduit through which much of the U.S. government’s outreach was pursued following the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Not only was he asked by the Clinton administration to help train and certify all Muslim military chaplains, his organization being the first to do so, but he also was appointed by the State Department in 1997 as a goodwill ambassador to the Middle East, making six taxpayer-funded trips. It is fair to say that during this period, Alamoudi was the most prominent and politically connected Muslim leader in America.

As we now know, Alamoudi was indicted in October 2003 for moving money on behalf of Libyan intelligence in an assassination plot targeting Saudi Prince (now King) Abdullah. The U.S. government has admitted that at the time he was being courted by Democrats and Republicans alike, he was a major fundraiser for al-Qaeda.

However, it is not as if the U.S. government was unaware of Alamoudi’s attachments. As far back as 1993, an informant told the FBI that Alamoudi was funneling regular payments from Osama bin Laden to Omar Abdel Rahman, the “blind sheikh” who was convicted of authorizing terror attacks against New York landmarks. In March 1996, Alamoudi’s association with Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzook was exposed in the pages of the Wall Street Journal. Two years later, the State Department came under fire by the New York Post for inviting Alamoudi to official events despite his known remarks in support of terrorism and terrorist leaders.

When President Bush took office, Alamoudi was quickly courted by the new administration. In June 2001, the Jerusalem Post reported that Alamoudi was going to be part of a White House meeting with Vice President Cheney despite the fact that Alamoudi was known to have attended a terror confab in Beirut earlier that year featuring representatives from virtually every major Islamic terrorist organization in the world, including al-Qaeda.

Yet just days after the 9/11 attacks, Alamoudi was one of the Muslim leaders asked to appear with President Bush at the Islamic Center of Washington, D.C. That same week, one of Alamoudi’s close associates, Muzammil Siddiqi, was asked to deliver an Islamic prayer and to represent the entire Muslim-American community at the national prayer service mourning the fallen.[Continue reading]

This is believed to be one of the men counter terrorism chiefs say are plotting a terrorist attack in America on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11.

An image of American-born 22-year-old Jude Kenan Mohammad has been posted on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list.

He has been linked to what officials have called a credible but unconfirmed al-Qaeda threat to set off a car bomb on bridges or tunnels in New York City or Washington.

The Wall Street Journal reported Mohammad is among three al-Qaeda leaders that investigators believe pose a particular threat because they have lived in the U.S.

Should that mission prove impossible, the attackers have been told to simply cause as much destruction as they can.

Mohammad, who was born in Florida, dropped out of North Carolina's Fuquay-Varina High School in 2006 and left the U.S. two years later to visit Pakistan, his father's homeland.

A federal grand jury in North Carolina indicted him and seven other men in 2009 on charges that they conspired to carry out terrorist activities around the world. Two of the men have pleaded guilty, and the trial of four others is set for September 19 in New Bern.

Federal authorities have never arrested Mohammad in the case, saying that they believe he has been in Pakistan since the indictment was issued.[More..]

Late in the morning of the Tuesday that changed everything, Lt. Heather “Lucky” Penney was on a runway at Andrews Air Force Base and ready to fly. She had her hand on the throttle of an F-16 and she had her orders: Bring down United Airlines Flight 93. The day’s fourth hijacked airliner seemed to be hurtling toward Washington. Penney, one of the first two combat pilots in the air that morning, was told to stop it[...]

As remarkable as it seems now, there were no armed aircraft standing by and no system in place to scramble them over Washington. Before that morning, all eyes were looking outward, still scanning the old Cold War threat paths for planes and missiles coming over the polar ice cap.

“There was no perceived threat at the time, especially one coming from the homeland like that,” says Col. George Degnon, vice commander of the 113th Wing at Andrews. “It was a little bit of a helpless feeling, but we did everything humanly possible to get the aircraft armed and in the air. It was amazing to see people react.”

Things are different today, Degnon says. At least two “hot-cocked” planes are ready at all times, their pilots never more than yards from the cockpit[...]

A third plane hit the Pentagon, and almost at once came word that a fourth plane could be on the way, maybe more. The jets would be armed within an hour, but somebody had to fly now, weapons or no weapons.

She climbed in, rushed to power up the engines, screamed for her ground crew to pull the chocks. The crew chief still had his headphones plugged into the fuselage as she nudged the throttle forward. He ran along pulling safety pins from the jet as it moved forward.

She muttered a fighter pilot’s prayer — “God, don’t let me [expletive] up” — and followed Sasseville into the sky

Amazing story, this is the first time Penney has agreed to an interview. She emphasizes the heroes that day were the passengers on Flight 93. Indeed they are but Penney and Sasseville are also heroes in my book...

U.S. Citizen Linked To Terror Plot on 9/11 Anniversary

U.S. authorities are scrambling to sort through information that the CIA developed in the past 24 hours indicating that at least three individuals entered the U.S. in August by air with the intent to launch a vehicle-borne attack against Washington, D.C. or New York around the anniversary of 9/11, according to intelligence officials.

One of the intelligence and law enforcement officials that ABC News spoke to said that one of the individuals may be a U.S. citizen and a second official said that possibly two of the individuals may have had U.S. documentation -- whether green cards or passports was unclear.

As news of the information became public, authorities began weighing whether to raise the national threat level.

The suspected terrorists are believed to have embarked on their journey to the U.S. from Afghanistan or Pakistan, according to two senior officials. One official said the route may have taken them through at least one other country, possibly Iran. Another news organization reported that they embarked from "the Pakistan area."

Israel Remembering 9/11 - A Living Memorial

The memorial, set against the magnificent backdrop of the foothills of Jerusalem in the Arazim Valley, was dedicated in November 2009, and is one of the first major international memorials to 9/11 and the only site outside of New York to recognize the names of every victim of the attack.

Commissioned and built by Jewish National Fund, the memorial depicts the World Trade Center and Pentagon through sculpture and landscape architecture. The 30-foot high bronze sculpture, designed by award-winning Israeli artist E. Weishoff and donated by New York resident and JNF major donor Edward Blank, is composed of a waving American flag that transforms into a memorial flame. The sculpture is surrounded by a circular, crater-like plaza and reflection area tiled in stone, funded by the Bronka Stavsky Weintraub Trust, which lists the names of those fallen.

“We are targeting two of al-Qa’ida’s top strategists and commanders in Pakistan, as well as a senior facilitator, striking at the heart of al-Qa’ida’s remaining leadership and its operations in Pakistan,” said Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen.

As a result of today’s action – taken pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13224 – U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with today's designees and any assets they may hold under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen.

“Yesterday our town was shocked to the core,” Furlong said during a morning news conference.

He identified the five people killed as Major Heath Kelly, Sgt. First Class Christian Riege, Sgt. First Class Miranda McElniney and Florence Donavan Gunderson[her husband was wounded...ed], the only civilian.

Also killed was the shooter, Eduardo Sencion, 32, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The three Nevada National Guard members were had been active in their fields, said Gen. Bill Burks.

Major Kelly of Reno was a decorated field officer who was a student of military history, Burks said.

Between 2004 to 2005 Kelly was on active duty for the U.S. Army in Iraq. He then joined the Nevada Guard, where besides being the joint forces unit commander, was a federal technician who worked at the Guard.

"All of the soldiers knew about his past in Iraq, but while he could be very serious, he also joked with you and told anecdotes," Studenicka said. "He was a Major with a difficult job of being in charge of more than 100 soldiers, training and preparing them for future deployments. He had a huge job."

Riege of Carson City had been with the U.S. Navy before joining the Guard, and had served in Afghanistan in 2009 and 2010.

McElniney of Reno had served soldiers in the medical, dental and human resources areas for more than 13 years, he said. She also owned a small baking company and was known for providing cupcakes for her coworkers.

Pakistan bombing kills 23, may be tied to Al Qaeda arrests

Police are investigating whether a twin suicide bomb attack on the home of a top paramilitary official that killed at least 23 people in the southwestern city of Quetta on Wednesday is linked to the recent arrest of three top Al Qaeda operatives in the city.

Brigadier Farrukh Shahzad, deputy head of the Frontier Corps paramilitary force for Baluchistan province, survived the morning attack but his wife was killed, Quetta police officials said. More than 50 people were injured in the blasts.

The attack began when a suicide bomber in a sports utility vehicle packed with explosives rammed his car into a convoy of Frontier Corps officers outside Shahzad's house, triggering a massive explosion, police said. Moments later, a second attacker rushed into Shahzad's house, hurling grenades inside before detonating his suicide bomb vest.

Shahzad was seriously injured in the attack, police said. Several senior Frontier Corps officers were killed or injured. Police identified the suicide bomber on foot as Ahmad Gul, a 21-year-old Afghan refugee living in the northwest Pakistani city of Peshawar. His identification card was found amid severed body parts found at the blast site.

Another Al-Qaeda Operative In Pakistan

Pakistan's ISI working in co-operation with the C.I.A. giving "technical assistance" to the ISI has taken a high ranking Al-Qaeda operative, Younis Al-Mauritani, into custody in Quetta, Pakistan according to BBC reports and a New York Post report this morning. He was arrested with two other Al-Qaeda affiliates, Abdul Ghaffar al-Shami and Messari al-Shami. Younis al-Mauritani was the member of Al-Qaeda that was tasked with causing damage to critical infrastructure and of economic interests in the United States, other western European countries, and in Australia.
In this Der Spiegel article dated May 9, 2011 Younis al-Mauritani is identified as instrumental in helping to set up German Al Qaida cells and is also identified with helping the 9/11 high-jackers do computer simulation.
My question is how long have our good "friends" in the Pakistani ISI known that they were harbouring this man? My guess is that they have known this all along considering that this man was so closely affiliated with Osama Bin-Laden and was known to have helped train the German cell that included the 9/11 high-jackers. After all it was not that hard for Der Spiegel to write this article so how hard could it have been for the ISI to get this information when it was happening in their own country.

This is a really big story when you string together the Der Spiegel and Florian Flades articles on terrorism in Germany.

UPDATE: I had read an article by Florian Flade the last week of August that also speaks of Younis Al- Mauritani's importance to Al-Qaeda and to Osama Bin Laden in particular. The article by Florian is based on the intelligence taken from the Bin Laden compound when is was raided by our SEAL team. Floran writes really good articles about terrorism in Europe and Germany.

Once again a former GITMO graduate has been killed by NATO forces. Sabar Lal Melma had been released from GITMO in 2007 after serving 5 years in detention at Guantanamo Bay Detention Center. Since his release he had been organizing attacks in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, and funding insurgents attacks. Sabar Lal Melma has been described as a key Al Qaida affiliate. This accusation was generated by the paper Yisrael Hayom's front page story about Palestinian Media Watch's report[PDF] on the PA's recently ratified law determining the payment of salaries to terrorists in Israeli prisons.

Reporting on PMW's documentation of this practice by the PA, the Israeli paper quoted Israeli ministers' responses, including the demand by Minister of Interior, Eli Yishai, that "transfer of funds to the PA must be frozen, the Palestinians do not want peace."

A nanny who worked for one of Colonel Gaddafi's sons has told how boiling hot water was poured over her head after she refused to beat his daughter.

Shweyga Mullah's entire body is covered in weeping scabs after she was allegedly burned by Hannibal Gaddafi's wife, Aline Skaf.

She was found abandoned in a room at one of the family's luxury seaside villas in western Tripoli[...]

Reporter Dan Rivers said that when he walked in the room, he thought she was wearing a hat because her injuries were so bad.

'Then the awful realisation dawned that her entire scalp and face were covered in red wounds and scabs, a mosaic of injuries that rendered her face into a grotesque patchwork.

'Her chest, torso and legs are all mottled with scars -- some old, some still red, raw and weeping. As she spoke, clear liquid oozed from one nasty open wound on her head'.
