Journalisms Quest for Human Rights in Yemen

Ongoing quest of Sabri Ba Makhasin Editor in chief of Al-Muharrer Weekly

SOZH has been following the very sad story of this gentlemen. Abuse of the worst kind of basic human rights by the Yemni authorities towards Al-Muharrer.
Jane
from Armies of Liberation has been documenting this in full. Her blog now has been banned in Yemen as well as My Pet Jawa where she also cross posts. Apparently, Yemeni authorities do not like to air their dirty laundry. What else would explain the banning of both blogs?
STOZH'S amd others have contacted our own State Department in regards to this. As of now it appears to be falling on deaf ears or not reaching the proper authorities...We all fear for the fate of this gentlemen...please keep him in your thought and prayers...

From Jane...

"High level orders"

Yemen Times:MUKALLA, Dec. 15 —" One week has passed since Editor in chief of Al-Muharrer Weekly sent a public plea to concerned authorities demanding an investigation into the brutal abuse he had received in the hands of local security in Mukalla city in Hadramout. So far his case has been ignored by the authority. “It seems I have to come to Sana’a and talk to the Ministry of Information, because the local authority has failed me,” he said.
Editor Sabri Ba Makhasin had been subjected on Dec. 3, 2007 to physical and mental abuse by local security. This was the 20th time this newspaper and its editors had been subjected to some kind of harassment by the state. "
