2 NJ Men Arrested At JFK Airport (On Terrorism Charges), Both Were Heading To Join AlQaeda Linked AlShabaab (Updated)

Update: If I may recall, Counter Terror Adviser, John Brennan, stated they would no longer use the word jihad when dealing with overseas contingency operations or man caused disasters.

Jihad is related to a personal struggle in Islam. It doesn't mean bad jihad as in murdering our troops, beheadings, killing infidels, fellow Muslims, blowing themselves up, smashing airplanes into buildings, blowing up subways, blowing up railways, etc.

Brennan stated "It's a legitimate tenet of the Islam". It's related to religion, so can't be used.

Someone didn't get the dhimmi message.

Headline: Federal authorities charge 2 men from N.J. with pursuing dream of 'holy war' in Somalia
The two New Jersey men arrested late Saturday night after planning to join a terrorist organization and wage violent jihad abroad, had engaged in paintball training, acquired military gear and apparel for use overseas and saved thousands of dollars toward their goal, according to the criminal complaint unsealed this morning.

The defendants, identified as Mohamed Mahmood Alessa, 20, of North Bergen, and Carlos Eduardo Almonte, 24, of Elmwood Park, were arrested at JFK International Airport. The men intended to take separate flights to Egypt on their way to Somalia to join a terrorist organization known as Al Shabaab, and wage violent jihad, according the criminal complaint, unsealed by U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Paul J. Fishman.

Criminal complaint against Mohamed Mahmood Alessa and Carlos Eduardo Almonte[PDF file...ed]

The arrest, which was first reported by The Star-Ledger, follows a more than three-year-long investigation by federal authorities who recorded numerous meetings and conversations with Alessa and Almonte, "during which the defendants discussed and prepared to carry out their plan."

In one conversation, recorded last November, Alessa told Almonte, referring to the United States: "They only fear you when you have a gun and when you -- when you start killing them and when you -- when you take their head and you go like this, and you behead it on camera ... We'll start killing here, if I can't do it over there."
Read the unsealed complaint, these traitors were hell bent on carrying out jihad against the infidels. Discussing beheading's, building up muscles to kill more infidels, etc.

American born Yemeni radical cleric, Anwar al Awlaki, enters the picture:
"8. On December 20, 2009, in New Jersey, the DEFENDANTS listened to a recording of Anwar al Awlaki promoting violent jihad and martyrdom".

"22. On May 25, 2010 in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, ALMONTE played for ALESSA a video-recorded interview of Awlaki, during which Awlaki justified the killing of civilians in the course of waging violent jihad."
Read it all....wow, just wow.

BTW, Mr Brennan, how does it feel being a dhimmi?

Update II: Upon further reading the complaint, someone tipped the FBI off about these two. Hats off to them! (Click to enlarge)

NJ
The FBI has arrested two New Jersey men in a shadowy terrorism plot tied to a radical Islamic group based in Somalia, both apprehended as they were preparing to board separate flights from JFK International Airport earlier this evening.

Both individuals were charged with conspiring to commit an act of international terrorism through a group tied to Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network, according to officials familiar with the details of the arrests. The sources declined to be identified because they were not authorized to discuss the case publicly.

The agencies involved in the arrests also declined to talk about the case.

Jose Lozano, a spokesman for the state Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, said only: "Two individuals were arrested at JFK in connection with an ongoing investigation. At this time, we can provide no further details because the investigation is ongoing. The arrests do not relate to an immediate threat."

The arrests were the culmination of Operation Arabian Knight, officials said. Details remain sketchy, but authorities said the suspects have been under surveillance for some time and were being shadowed by an undercover New York City cop who managed to infiltrate their circle of friends and keep tabs as they bought air tickets and prepared to travel overseas.
AlShabaab must be heartbroken...heh..

Update: The above link has been updated:
Two New Jersey men intent on killing American troops were arrested Saturday as they boarded flights to link up with a virulent jihadist group in Somalia, authorities said.

The men, both North Jersey residents, were charged with conspiring to commit an act of international terrorism through a group tied to Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network, according to officials familiar with the details of the arrests.

Mohamed Hamoud Alessa, 20, of North Bergen, and Carlos Eduardo Almonte, 26, of Elmwood Park were apprehended at John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens before they could board separate flights to Egypt, where they were to start journeys to Somalia. The men were arrested by teams of state and federal law-enforcement agents who have been investigating the pair since October 2006, according to the officials, who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the operation publicly[...]

Officials said the New Jersey suspects were believed to have led fairly normal lives in North Jersey but then started acting strangely and gravitating toward anti-American sentiment. Their families aided in the investigation after growing worried about the beliefs and actions of the men, officials close to the probe said.
