TAMPA - Police in Tampa say they have arrested a teenager who planned to mark the first day of classes with a Columbine-style violent attack.

Investigators say they found bomb-making materials in the home of a 17-year-old former Freedom High School student after receiving a tip yesterday.

He had "intentions of exploding some devices at Freedom High School on the first day of school next week," police chief Jane Castor said.

The department's bomb experts studied materials allegedly found in the teen's room and said the devices could have caused "serious injury," the chief added.
Hats off to who tipped the police on this plot. He/she saved untold number of lives.

UPDATE: Above link updated:

Investigators say they found bomb-making materials and drugs in the home of Jared Cano, a 17-year-old former Freedom High School student, after receiving a tip yesterday.

Cano had "intentions of exploding some devices at Freedom High School on the first day of school next week," police chief Jane Castor said[...]

Also found in Cano's room was a "manifesto," Castor said, that included descriptions of targets and a minute-by-minute schedule for the attack. His apparent hope was that the attack's violence would surpass the notorious Columbine attack in Colorado.

Cano now faces a variety of felony bomb and drug charges.
UPDATE II: Perp had a marijuana growing operation. How could the parents not know he was growing marijuana?
At 11:50 a.m., police got word that the expelled student had threatened to plant a destructive device at the school, targeting specific administrators and any students nearby.

At 6:30 p.m., the suspect's mother — who is listed as a math teacher on Riverview High School's website — consented to a search of their home. Police found a journal and materials to make pipe bombs, including a fuel source, shrapnel, plastic tubing and timing and fusing devices.

In a hearing today, prosecutors said that Cano, when arrested, repeated his plan to discharge a bomb and cause mass casualties.

The journal contained schematic drawings of rooms inside the school and disturbing statements about his intent to kill, police said.

They also found a marijuana growing operation, with lights, plants, a digital scale, several baggies on the floor and a blue glass pipe.
